Coventry Museum transformed into nature-inspired wonderland

COVENTRY’S Herbert Art Gallery and Museum is set to transform into an immersive, nature-inspired wonderland this summer with the launch of ‘JOY… inspired by nature’.

The exhibition, which runs from July 19 to September 22, is designed to engage the senses and uplift the hearts and minds of all who attend.

Organized by Nicola Richardson and Marianne Taviner of Vortex Creates, ‘JOY… inspired by nature’ will feature an amazing range of new work from their studio.

The exhibition features a mix of painting, photography, sculpture, video and audio installations that will transform the gallery into a thought-provoking celebration of the environment.

Fifteen local artists also had the opportunity to display their eye-catching creations, adding to the eclectic and joyful atmosphere of the exhibition.

The project highlights the profound impact of the physical environment on well-being, demonstrating how aesthetics can cultivate joy.

This exhibition was made possible by the support of an Arts Council England Project Grant and Culture Coventry.

Among the contributing artists, self-taught costume designer Abeda Begum helped create some of the show’s standout pieces.

Coventry artist and developer Ashley James Brown has composed a unique soundscape for one of the major installations, while botanist Gemma Costin has developed a scented landscape that will guide visitors through the exhibition with scented clues.

Nicola Richardson from Vortex Creates said: “The last six months have been an incredible time growing a textile garden as fabric botanists using and upcycling our eclectic stock of materials.

“I can’t wait to see him flourish in the gallery and bring our colorful curating style to the Herbert Art Gallery.”

In addition to the main exhibition, the gallery will host a variety of summer activities and art classes, including the JOY family launch event on Saturday 20 July.

This free event will include hands-on activities such as making seed bombs for wildflower gardens, creating colorful rock art and creating playful paper masks.

Visitors will also have the chance to explore ‘Dippy’s Jurassic Playground’, a free early years exhibition inspired by the famous dinosaur Dippy.
