The disruption at Manchester Airport has seen cancellations “in the 10s”, the airport said this morning.

But as the day progressed, there were now more than 60 canceled flights from the airport, according to flight tracking website FlightRadar., externalwhile almost 80 were postponed.

An airport spokesman told the BBC earlier on Sunday that there were also entry diversions as “planes cannot take off” as there is limited space at the airport. This makes it difficult to accept aircraft, which means they will be sent elsewhere.

The power outage caused major problems, particularly for baggage processing at the airport, which was severely affected.

Jet2, one of the airlines affected by the disruption, is informing passengers that it has been unable to load luggage onto aircraft as the baggage system at the airport remains inoperable and will do its best to reunite passengers with their luggage.

Airports are very finely tuned operations with complicated flow patterns that operate at near maximum efficiency – so when a problem occurs, there is little bandwidth and systems back up very quickly.
