Cricket: 140kg fan favorite Rahkeem Cornwall’s iconic moment

Rahkeem Cornwall, the favorite of West Indies fans completed a five-wicket haul in the first innings with four wickets and sensational catches in the second to set the cricket world abuzz.

Cornwall, the popular 140kg spinner, helped a second West Indies team under stand-in captain Kraigg Brathwaite complete a 2-0 series sweep against Bangladesh with a dramatic 17-run win in the second Test.

Chasing 231 for victory on Sunday, Bangladesh came close before being bowled out for 213, with spin trio Rahkeem Cornwall (4-105), Brathwaite (3-25) and Jomel Warrican (3-47) claiming all 10 wickets -hate.

Opener Tamim Iqbal top-scored for the hosts with a 50 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 31 down but Bangladesh fell short at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

West Indies managed the fifth-highest successful run chase in Test history with their three-wicket win in the series opener in Chattogram.

Brathwaite led a weakened Bangladesh side after several players, including Test captain Jason Holder, pulled out of the tour citing concerns over COVID-19.

But Cornwall’s man-of-the-match performance and the joyous scenes at the end of the game had the cricketing world grinning from ear to ear.

While picking up four wickets, it was Cornwall’s catch at slip to end the game that got his teammates going.

West Indies managed the fifth-highest successful run chase in Test history with their three-wicket win in the series opener in Chattogram.

Brathwaite led a weakened Bangladesh side after several players, including Test captain Jason Holder, pulled out of the tour citing concerns over COVID-19.

“Coming here without some players, with the protocols and so on, I’m very grateful to God for the opportunity to captain the West Indies,” Brathwaite said.

“The guys stuck to their plans, they were very disciplined.

“Cricket means everything to us. People will be proud. People wrote us off but we kept it simple, enjoyed ourselves and proved them wrong.”
