Police incident closes A4 Portway

Emergency services from Bristol were called to the A4 Portway after an incident was reported to police. Avon and Somerset Constabulary confirmed it was called to the area this afternoon (Sunday June 23) after a member of the public called 999 due to concerns for someone’s welfare.

The main road in and out of the city was closed for several hours while the police intervened and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Police also asked motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

A spokesman for the force said: “The A4 Portway is closed in both directions while emergency services respond to an incident. I received a call today at approximately 2.50pm from a member of the public. Emergency services remain at the scene and road users are advised to seek an alternative route.”
