Manchester United fans are all making the same prediction that Ruud van Nistelrooy approached the role of manager

Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy could be set to return to the club.

Manchester United investors Ineos want to make changes at Carrington, and one involves a potential change in Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Ruud van Nistelrooy has been offered a role at Old Trafford. It is not clear if it will be an addition to the group or a replacement.

Van Nistelrooy previously worked as an assistant for the Dutch national team and as a coach at PSV Eindhoven.

One of the players he coached at PSV was Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite, of whom he is a big fan.

Manchester United fans predict the outcome of Ruud van Nistelrooy

Ruud van Nistelrooy has a growing reputation as a manager and was recently linked with Vincent Kompany’s replacement at Burnley in the Championship.

It is therefore a bit unclear whether he will jump at the chance to join United. But if he does, fans have a theory that the Dutchman could have a big future.

While Erik ten Hag was recently retained as manager after a review, he could just as easily be axed if results fall short next season.

And with Van Nistelrooy on the scene, Ineos may have a ready-made successor, at least on an interim basis.

One fan wrote on X: “INEOS have spoken to Ruud van Nistelrooy about taking a role under EtH. It seems like a bait and switch move to me because any slip up from the manager, then RvN will succeed him as interim without a shadow of a doubt.”

Another added: “There’s no doubt, if Ten Hag is sacked mid-season, Ruud will take over. Saying I’m all for it.”

A third fan agreed: “If Ten Hag fail to deliver next season then it would be great if Ruud Van Nistelrooy takes over.”

Another supporter wrote: “This is bigger news than the Erik ten Hag extension. Ruud van Nistelrooy is a potential coach to replace the manager.”

And another agreed: “If Ruud is smart, pick Man United for a few bad games and become a caretaker with a good chance of getting a full-time job.”

Another added: “I think Ruud could take over permanently if things don’t work out with ETH.”

What Van Nistelrooy said about Erik ten Hag

Van Nistelrooy recently explained that he spent time in coaching sessions learning under Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, another of his former clubs.

Speaking to Coaches’ Voice, he also made his views clear about current United boss Erik ten Hag.

He said: “There is a long history of great Dutch coaches and I have so much admiration for the careers they have had.

“Rinus Michels, Johan Cruyff, Louis van Gaal, Guus Hiddink, Dick Advocaat and now, of course, Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot.

“It’s motivating for me to keep learning, to keep improving and maybe one day take the steps to show that I’m capable of it. It’s a fantastic challenge and I can’t wait to take it on.”

The prospect of getting the chance to work under Ten Hag at United should be very appealing to him and will only set him up for future challenges.
