Enfield bear warning along South Railroad Street

ENFIELD, NC (WNCN) — An alert was issued Sunday for residents in a Halifax County town after a large bear was spotted.

The warning to residents Sunday morning began with “Alert Alert Alert” and included a photo of the bear from the Enfield Police Department.

The bear was spotted along South Railroad Street near the Enfield Parks and Recreation building, which is located at 630 S. Railroad St., Enfield police said.

The bear appeared to be walking along the road in an area just south of Enfield town centre.

“We advise citizens to exercise caution and also avoid the area,” the alert from Enfield Police said.

Officers added that animal control teams were alerted and rushed to the area.

“A bear has been sighted,” the alert said. “Please don’t leave food and trash out and be careful and vigilant.”
