Bananas will stay fresh longer with the 26-day storage hack that impresses fruit fans

All households could benefit from knowing a few clever food storage tricks to keep their staples fresher for longer.

Bananas often seem to go from ripe to ripe too quickly, and many of us just leave them in the fruit bowl or on the counter – not the best places, it seems.

A food storage guru has now revealed an ingenious tactic that can keep bananas from browning for up to 26 days.

Amy Cross, who shares tips on buying, cleaning and storing fruit and vegetables on her TikTok account @amycrosslegacy, has revealed her unique jar method to keep bananas “fresher for longer”.

Using this technique, Amy cut a banana into thirds, the skin intact, and placed the pieces in a glass jar in the refrigerator, the Express reports.

After 26 days, she presented the banana segments looking surprisingly fresh, with the skin still yellow and no browning in sight.

In her TikTok video, Amy explained: “So the whole point of putting the bananas in the jar was to see if I could get a cut banana to last 12 hours and it’s been 26 days.”

For those who prefer not to slice their bananas, experts suggest storing them in a cool, dark place.
