Adrian is set to reject a new Liverpool contract to join Real Betis.

Jurgen Klopp brought the goalkeeper to the Reds in 2019 to serve as Alisson’s main backup. He fell out of favor once Caoimhin Kelleher graduated from the academy, with the Irishman instead taking on the role of Alisson’s deputy.

Adrian made his last appearance for Liverpool in 2022, before spending the entire season simply sitting on the bench. But he was a key member of the squad, so much so that he was offered a new contract earlier this month.

“Liverpool FC have submitted their Premier League retained list beyond the end of the 2023-2024 season, with the departure of several senior and Academy players confirmed,” the Reds said in a statement.

“Contract offers have been made to senior goalkeeper Adrian – who has made 26 appearances since signing for the club in August 2019 – and Academy stoppers Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman.”

According to the Daily Mail, however, Adrian will reject these advances and instead return to his homeland. He started his career at Betis before moving to the Premier League with West Ham.

He would go on to make 26 appearances in all competitions during his five years at Anfield. He made enough appearances to receive a winner’s medal for the Premier League in 2020, the UEFA Super Cup in 2019, the Club World Cup in the same year and the Carabao Cup in 2024.
