‘Police incident’ in Briggate closes street in Leeds city centre

A street in Leeds city center has been closed in both directions following a “police incident” this morning.

West Yorkshire Police have closed Duncan Street in both directions. Information is scarce at this stage, but according to our traffic management system, the incident took place at 7.09am.

In a brief statement, Inrix said: “Duncan St closed both ways, heavy traffic due to police incident from Briggate to Cloth Hall St.”

It comes as hundreds of people descended on the city center for the annual Leeds 10km race this morning. This is not believed to affect the route.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed the force was dealing with an incident but did not reveal any further information at this stage. More to come.
