UFL fans could be treated to a potential championship game preview on Saturday when the undefeated Birmingham Stallions host St. Louis Battlehawks (5-1).

The Stallions picked up where they left off in the USFL, winning that league’s two titles in its reincarnated form. The Battlehawks have won five straight after a stunning Week 1 loss against the Michigan Panthers when kicker Jake Bates connected on a game-winning 64-yard field goal in the final seconds.

Saturday’s other game is on the opposite side of the standings spectrum as the winless Arlington Renegades host the Memphis Showboats (1-5). The Renegades were a huge upset after winning the XFL Championship game last season.

On Sunday, the San Antonio Brahmas (4-2) will look to keep pace with the division-leading Battlehawks when they host the Houston Roughnecks (1-5), another team on the battle bus.

What is UFL?

The UFL is a merger between two competing professional spring football leagues, the USFL and the XFL.

The recreated USFL — with team names that echo its 1980s forebear — opened play in April 2022, with all eight teams based and playing home games in Birmingham, Alabama. For the 2023 season, the league has expanded its home stadium footprint.

Dany Garcia and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson purchased the XFL out of bankruptcy for $15 million and restarted the 2020 version of the league. The XFL was able to successfully complete its first season in 2023.

The new merged league was announced on 31 December 2023.
