Relegated Sheffield United suffer further misery as their 1-0 defeat at Everton sets a new Premier League record.

Chris Wilder’s side have collected just 16 points from 37 games and have been bottom of the table for most of the campaign.

And after a 1-0 defeat to Everton, they have now conceded a record 101 goals.

This beats the previous record set by Swindon in the 1993-94 campaign, when there were 42 games in one season.

Sheffield United previously broke the Derby record of 89 goals conceded in a 38-game season, losing 4-2 to Manchester United.

They conceded five or more goals against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Burnley and Newcastle outscored them by eight at Bramall Lane.

The Blades are also the lowest scorers in the division, finding the back of the net just 35 times.

After relegation was confirmed, manager Wilder said: “It stings and hurts – we weren’t good enough.

“Sheffield United are a very good football club, I think everyone understands that.

“I am enthusiastic and committed, along with my coaching staff. We know exactly where we need to go, what the culture needs to look like, what the pre-season needs to look like.”

To make matters worse, Sheffield United are set to receive two points next season after an independent disciplinary panel ruled they failed to pay transfers to other clubs last season.
