What Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai did for Barnabas Varga after horror injury as heroics revealed

Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai was instrumental in getting help for his Hungarian team-mate Barnabas Varga, who was seriously injured after a collision with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn during the final Euro 2024 group stage match on Sunday night.

Varga appeared to be hit unintentionally by Gunn’s arm during a challenge for a ball resulting from a Szoboszlai free kick midway through the second half.

Ferencvarosi striker TC Varga then lay motionless on the ground in reaction to the hit, while his teammates desperately called for medical help.

The medical staff brought a stretcher from the sideline after some delay, which angered the Hungarian players. This prompted Szoboszlai to intervene and hasten them by pulling the stretcher himself to Varga.

A visibly upset Szoboszlai had tears streaming down his face as screens were installed around Varga during treatment before he was rushed to a local hospital, the Mirror reports.

After the game ended, Hungary manager Marco Rossi said that Vargas had facial fractures and a contusion, however, he was “healthy” apart from those issues. Rossi expressed that his players were annoyed by the apparent lack of urgency shown by the medical staff towards this serious situation.
