An 80-year-old man died in a collision with a tractor

An 80-year-old man has died in a road traffic collision near the Somerset-Dorset border. Police said the local man’s family had been informed.

The collision happened at around 10.50am on Saturday, June 22, and closed a country road in the village of Bradford Abbas, near Sherborne, for most of the day while collision investigators examined the scene.




The man who was killed has not been named, but police said he was in his 80s and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was driving a white Suzuki Celerio on Grant’s Hill, the road between Bradford Abbas and Thornford, about four miles south-east of Sherborne.

The man’s car was involved in a collision with a blue New Holland tractor which was traveling on a narrow country lane. Following the collision, the tractor driver was uninjured. Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who unfortunately died in this collision,” said Sergeant Richard Stroud, from Dorset Road Policing.

“We are conducting a full and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances of what happened. I would urge witnesses or anyone who may have captured relevant dash cam footage to contact us.
