Coventry man named and charged after ‘axe smashed’ cars

A man has been charged after several vehicles were ‘axe-smash’ in Coventry. Police were called to Gayer Street in Little Heath on Friday (June 21).

Officers found several cars had been hit with an object, believed to be an ‘axe’. Officers arrested a 39-year-old man at the scene, West Midlands Police said.



Daniel Swaine, from Coventry, has been charged with 13 offenses of criminal damage, along with one count of carrying a weapon, West Midlands Police said. He is due to appear at Coventry Crown Court today (Monday, June 24).

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We are still appealing for anyone who was in the area on Friday (June 21) who may have seen what led to the incident to get in touch.

“We are particularly keen on any dash cam or doorbell footage you may have. If you have anything you can contact us on 101 or Live Chat quoting crime number 20/601140/24.”
