Stuart Pearce tackles the ‘wandering’ question of Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper

Nottingham Forest hero Stuart Pearce has backed Steve Cooper to keep Leicester City in the Premier League and praised the Welshman’s integrity.

Indeed, the Reds and England great even said he was sad to see Cooper relieved of his duties at the City Ground – but accepts his success there could leave some City fans needing conviction.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former left-back denied that keeping City in the position would be an even tougher task than the one he got by maintaining Forest’s underdog status in 2022.

“I don’t think so,” said the 62-year-old. “I’ve been messaging Steve since he got the job. Obviously I followed his career closely, certainly at Nottingham Forest and when he left Forest I was very disappointed with the club. I thought he did a really good job there.

“Personally, I think it’s a great meeting in Leicester. I think he’s going to get in there and I think he’s going to keep it in the division. I think he’s learned a lot from his time with Forest in the Premier League and I think that will stand him in good stead. The way he behaved at Forest was commendable in my world.”

Pearce acknowledged, however, that there may be some King Power skeptics. “I think he’s going to have to beat them, there’s no doubt about that and you’ve got the rivalry aspect as well. There’s a Forest-Leicester rivalry in there somewhere and I’m sure with some fans it’ll get them lost on occasion.
