Super League attendances: Two massive crowds while three matches see over 10,000 in attendance

The Super League attendance figures for Round 15 have been confirmed, with the competition seeing major growth across all six games, but two games in particular stand out for the monster crowds.

Round 15 marked the final game before the international break with France hosting England and Super League fans turned out to ensure huge attendances, with three games breaking the five-figure mark of 10,000.

Two of those came on Friday night when a huge 17,535 turned up at Headingley for an emotional night celebrating the life of Rob Burrow, meanwhile a huge crowd was in attendance at The Brick Community Stadium for Wigan Warriors who beat the London Broncos.

Matt Peet’s side won 36-0 but more importantly introduced the talent that is Jack Farrimond to the Super League stage, with the midfielder putting in a Man of the Match display as he ran the show and tore the Broncos apart.

Action at Headingley saw Leeds Rhinos number six Brodie Croft do the same, taking inspiration from their former number seven, claiming he felt “someone was with me” when he charged 80 meters down for to score the second of his two tries in an 18-10 win.

Prior to these games, Hull KR beat Castleford Tigers at The Jungle thanks to a goal from Jez Litten, the Robins edging out a narrow 13-12 victory against a strong Cas side who have now lost two games to rivals Wigan and KR with three combined points.

Hull KR’s neighbors Hull FC fought hard but went down 24-18 to Warrington Wolves in a game where fans questioned referee Ben Thaler’s decision not to award a kick and Warrington scored the match winner in the next set of six.

Saturday’s other game saw the Catalans trail 22-0 at half-time but survive a second-half surge from Huddersfield as they hung on 22-18 in a game that put more pressure on Ian Watson. The Dragons saw Salford Red Devils reopen their two-point lead in Super League as the Red Devils beat St Helens 20-18 on Sunday in a thrilling match.

There was a lot of incredible rugby on show and thankfully it was seen by many fans as the Super League attendance figures for round 15 were confirmed.

Leeds’ crowd of 17,535 was the biggest Super League attendance of the season and rightly so as fans observed the tributes to Rob Burrow with immaculate respect. The game saw testimonials from former players and even his father Geoff, who spoke with class and raw emotion as he paid tribute to his beloved son.

The other game to top 10,000 was at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, while the crowds at Castleford (7,897) and Catalans (8,254) were also impressive. Salford’s home game against St Helens also saw them break the 5,000 mark with traveling support Saints helping them to a crowd of 5,724.
