Three arrested following domestic incident in Enfield

ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – Three people were arrested Sunday in Enfield following a domestic violence incident.

According to the Enfield Police Department, officers received a report of a domestic violence incident at a home on Poplar Street at 5:51 p.m. prior to officers’ arrival, the victims advised officers that the suspect had left the area on foot with his dog.


Two K-9 teams were used to track the suspect’s scent through the nearby neighborhood, which led to a wooded area west of Gordon Avenue. The suspect’s dog was found on the loose and officers heard the suspect moving through some brush along the east bank of the Connecticut River.

As officers approached the bank, they saw the suspect slide down the bank and into the river. Officers attempted to call out to the suspect, who then refused to return to shore as he continued to swim further into the river while making suicidal statements.

A fire boat with officers on board was put into the water to intercept the suspect who was being swept away by the current. About 1.2 miles from shore, officers were able to make contact with the suspect, who was still refusing to come out of the water and continued to make suicidal statements.

After struggling with the officers, two of the suspect’s limbs were restrained, and he was then taken into custody. The suspect was then taken to the hospital for evaluation. He is charged with Assault in the 3rd Degree (3 counts), Breach of Peace in the 2nd Degree, Interfering with Police and is currently being held on $50,000 bond. His dog was unharmed and returned to the suspect’s family.

During this arrest, aged 56 Eileen MacDonald he had listened to a police scanner and wanted to know what was going on. She drove to the incident, where an officer recognized her and said “Hi.” While speaking with MacDonald, the officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. MacDonald and her 40-year-old passenger Christina Cooley, were directed out of the vehicle. Officers found 36.5 grams of fentanyl, 14.41 grams of crack cocaine, 25 packets of Suboxone and more than $200 in small amounts consistent with proceeds from the sale of narcotics.

MacDonald and Cooley were both arrested and charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and are each being held on $100,000 bail.
