Planning Cornwall: Proposal for 60 homes near Hayle football ground finally given the nod

A plan for 60 homes in a Cornish town has finally been approved by Cornwall Council’s planning department after councilors initially gave the go-ahead to the controversial scheme a year ago.

Applicants Messrs Rogers and Clark’s master scheme to build homes – 30% of which will be ‘affordable’ – on land west of Wheal Alfred Road, Hayle, was approved by a council planning committee in July past, on condition of providing the officers. permission to sign off on the development when a Section 106 agreement has been signed and terms have been agreed.

Planning officers have now given final planning permission approval. However, there could still be delays as technically the applicant has three years to submit a reserved matters application and/or a full planning application and if this is approved it could take a further three years until the work begins.

The committee agreed to the proposal last year despite objections from Hayle Borough Council and the area’s Cornwall councillor. The homes will be built on land adjoining the town’s football club, between two sites where plans for 100 new homes have previously been approved.

The local council was strongly opposed on the grounds that the transport infrastructure to support the new housing did not exist. Peter Channon, divisional member for the area, shared the city council’s concerns about the wider transport impact caused by the development on land near Viaduct Hill and Wheal Alfred Road.
