Castleford Tigers signing leaves and returns to Australia

Castleford Tigers have confirmed they have dropped the overseas signing of Charbel Tasipale with immediate effect.

Tasipale arrived at the club at the end of last year as the Tigers battled a relegation pair with neighbors Wakefield Trinity, with the second winger/centre proving a vital asset at the end of the year.

The 2024 campaign has been much more difficult for him, although he suffered a brutal injury early in the campaign and has yet to play since the eighth round of the competition in April.

During his 10-month stay at the club, he made ten appearances and scored just one try, but is now back down following news of his release today.

Castleford Tigers have confirmed the Lebanon international has been released on “compassionate grounds” as they wish him well in his future endeavours. The club confirmed the news via social media in a short statement.

The club broke the news via the X profile with the following statement attached.

“Castleford Tigers can confirm that Charbel Tasipale has been released from his contract at the club after returning to Australia on compassionate grounds.

“We thank Charbel for his service to the club during his time here and wish him well in the future.”

The 24-year-old had agreed an initial one-and-a-half-year deal with an option for a further year at the club, meaning Tasipale could have been signed until the end of next season.

Instead, he returns home after less than a season and has played just ten games, with the injury sustained against Wigan proving to be his last action in a Tigers shirt.

He signed from the Cronulla Sharks’ Newtown Jets and was an established Lebanese international who played four games for the Cedars.

His departure will now mean the club has a cap available which could be used to target more size in the pack, something the club has sorely lacked so far in 2024.
