Coventry M6 closure live as HGV ‘went up in flames’

Motorists have been urged to avoid the M6 ​​near Coventry due to a vehicle fire. It happened at around 3.40pm today (Monday, June 24). National Highways has confirmed that the M6 ​​(Northbound) in J2 has closed. It is likely to remain closed until the evening.

An HGV is well alight and smoke can be seen rising into the air. Motorists have been urged to avoid the busy route this afternoon. Warwickshire Police and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended. Delays are building quickly in both directions, according to National Highways.

There are currently 90 minute delays and heavy congestion for 7 miles on the M6 ​​northbound in Warwickshire.

The motorway is closed at J2 Antsy Interchange (Coventry (E) A46, Leicester (M69)) due to a lorry carrying a large quantity of hay catching fire.

Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and National Highways have resources deployed to the scene.

Traffic is being diverted onto J2 to go to the Antsy Interchange roundabout, to join the M6 ​​northbound take the third exit from the roundabout.

Firefighters from Nuneaton and Coleshill were called to tackle the large blaze on the M6.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Nuneaton, Coleshill and Water Bowser from Coleshill are attending a lorry fire on the M6.”
