Coventry City have released Evan Eghosa, recently from Norwich City

Coventry City have agreed to terminate the contract of young striker Evan Eghosa, according to a report from Coventry Live.

Coventry City are gearing up for a bigger and better 2024/25 season after failing to reach another play-off final last time out.

The campaign was a memorable one as they recovered well from a poor start to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup. However, they fell short of their ultimate goal in the league and will be determined to make significant improvements next year.

A busy summer is in store, although last year’s rebuild means business may not be as extensive as last time.

To pave the way for new additions at both first team and academy level, there are players moving on. Now, Coventry Live report that one player heading elsewhere is 18-year-old Evan Eghosa.

They report that Coventry City and striker Eghosa have agreed to part ways. His contract will be terminated 12 months early, just a year after signing a two-year professional deal with the Sky Blues.

Next destination

The cancellation of Eghosa’s contract means he is free to hunt for a club without being tied to a team. Coventry City could have demanded a fee for his services, but this puts the player’s future firmly in their own hands.

Exactly where he ends up remains to be seen, but intriguingly, Norwich City took the chance to look at the Austrian prospect recently.

Eghosa linked up with the Canaries in the process in April. This was the first indicator that Eghosa was likely to move on from the Sky Blues.

He played 30 minutes off the bench in a Premier League 2 clash against Aston Villa. The youngsters from Norwich came out 4-1 winners.

Next season

Coventry City will hope that a productive summer will help them fight for the play-off places next time around.

They will look to retain as many of their key players as possible while adding talent that can take Mark Robins’ side to the next level.

A strong pre-season could see some of Eghosa’s recent academy teammates staking their claim for first-team roles as well. It looks like it won’t be that way, although an exit awaits the talented and versatile striker.

Norwich City could offer Eghosa a chance to prove himself at another EFL club, but the Coventry City man may have a few options to choose from this summer.
