The Greater Manchester sightseeing tour has been named one of the best in the UK by Tripadvisor

With the Euros in full swing, it’s only fitting that a football-themed attraction in Manchester has been named among the best things to do in the UK, according to Tripadvisor. The Manchester City Stadium Tour has been included in a list of the top ten visitor experiences in the country, based on data from the travel review website.

The tour gives football fans a behind-the-scenes look at the Etihad Stadium so they can get up close to the home of Manchester City FC. It includes a walk through the pitch tunnel, a look at the changing rooms and even ‘interaction’ with Pep Guardiola in the press room using the latest technology.

It came fifth, beating tours such as the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour in London and the Edinburgh Castle Guided Walking Tour in Edinburgh. The list was topped by a historic tour of London bars for the second year in a row.

This was followed by the Original Harry Potter Locations Tour in second place, also in the capital. Near Liverpool, the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour came third.

The list was revealed as Tripadvisor announced the winners of the Travellers’ Choice Awards 2024. Best things to do. It is based on TripAdvisor data from millions of travelers around the globe.

The awards included the flagship categories of Top Overall Experiences and Top Attractions, along with sub-categories such as Family, Food & Drink and Nature & Outdoors. The Unvinquished Tour in Porto City Center, Porto, Portugal was named the world’s top experience, while the Empire State Building in New York City, USA, was named the world’s top attraction.

Although no Manchester attractions made the UK shortlist – which was dominated by Edinburgh and London – there was one top ten within a short distance of the city: York Minster, which is doable on a day trip. Another York attraction that came ninth for the Family category was The Wizard Walk of York.

Meanwhile, Alton Towers came in at number 8 on the list of the best amusement and water parks in the world. The guided tour of Glasgow’s Celtic Park stadium has been named the world’s best family experience.
