Live updates from Birmingham Airport as passengers face new queues at security

Tourists and other travelers heading into Birmingham Airport today (June 25) are likely to face another morning of long queues as disruptions to the security process at BHX continue.

On most mornings, passengers from 4am had to line up under the tents in long, snaking queues. While queuing, passengers are given advice on changes to the 100ml rule and which items must be separated into clear plastic bags.

Ongoing construction work at the airport is also responsible for long delays for morning fliers, which can extend until around 9am. However, those with express passes reported skipping the line and going through security in 20 minutes – rather than three hours.

Birmingham Airport boss Nick Barton warned passengers to “be prepared”.

Queues “move at a steady pace”

A traveler heading through Birmingham Airport contacted BirminghamLive to provide an update on the state of the queues this morning.

Gav said: “The queues at 5.14am were not quite outside the building and moving at a steady pace.”

Update: It took this passenger 30 minutes to get through the lines before security.

Airport bosses answer changes at BHX

As Birmingham Airport continues to go through a major period of change, we put a series of passenger questions to airport bosses as the summer holidays approach. In recent weeks, there have been scenes of “chaos” as hundreds of passengers queue to enter the terminal through construction work, particularly during the morning rush hour.

Queues are winding down by mid-morning, but there has been traveler confusion over the reworked 100ml maximum rule for liquids, compounded by reduced waiting space as the airport pauses in unveiling its “next-generation” security hall. As a result, the airport had some passengers arrive seven hours early for their flight and in some cases with non-compliant liquids such as slime tubs.
