Incredible footage shows tonnes of hay covering the M6 near Coventry after a ‘fireball’ lorry caught fire

Incredible footage shows tonnes of hay covering all lanes of the M6 near Coventry following a ‘fireball’ lorry fire. Dozens of firefighters fought the fire for more than 12 hours.

It meant Junction 2 near the junctions with the M69 and A46 had to be closed for hours and the stretch of motorway was not reopened until 2am today (June 25). Warwickshire Fire and Rescue crews from Nuneaton, Coleshill and the Coleshill water bowser responded to the initial 999 call at around 3pm yesterday afternoon (June 24).

They ended up finding a “fireball” as a truck was engulfed in flames with its load of hay well alight. It turned out to be a complex operation to extinguish the huge fire.

A spokesman for Nuneaton Fire Station described the scene saying: “All four lanes were covered in hay as we had to keep turning it to put out the fire.

“The process of going back, burning and putting it out took a long time because you have to make sure all the fire is out.”
