Former Sheffield Wednesday player close to switch European qualifiers

Reports from Scotland suggest that SPFL side St Mirren are on the verge of completing a move for former Sheffield Wednesday full-back Jaden Brown.

Brown, who left Hillsborough after just two years at the club, is believed to be penning a two-year deal with Stephen Robinson’s side as they look to embark on a European adventure next season. The left-back spent time on loan with The Buddies last season as they qualified for the second qualifying round of the Conference League by finishing fourth in the SPFL.

The 25-year-old started his career with Spurs and was part of the England Under-16 squad that won the Montaigu Tournament in 2015. He joined Huddersfield Town on a free transfer in 2019 but was loaned out to Exeter City, where has failed. to appear. He made 28 league appearances for the Terriers but was released in 2021, prompting Sheff Weds to snap him up.

He suffered an injury at Hillsborough but made his cup debut against Huddersfield before going on to make 32 appearances over two seasons. He scored a couple of goals for The Owls, one earning them a 1-0 win over promotion rivals Peterborough in 2022/23. After the season, with Wednesday promoted, he was released, signing for Lincoln City.

ArrivalHad a tough spell at the LNER Stadium and appeared just 11 times for Mark Kennedy before the former Liverpool man was sacked. He came off the bench against Stevenage in Michael Skuabala’s first game and started his second, a 1-0 win at Leyton Orient. However, he made two further appearances and was loaned out to St Mirren in the January window.

While north of the border, he started just once and featured seven times but did enough to impress, with a deal seemingly imminent. He is still contracted to the Imps but it is believed a move would involve a minimal fee, if any, to allow Brown to play regular football.

The writer’s vision

This move is a bit of a shock. Brown failed to impress at Lincoln, partly due to injury and a change of manager, but was deemed surplus to requirements in any case. His move to St Mirren didn’t appear to be a success, with minimal playing time, but manager Stephen Robinson clearly saw enough to return for more.

At 25, he is young enough to start his career and there is no doubt that he has the talent with his upbringing at Spurs. This could be the move that ignites his career and who knows, he might just be a European hero.

In any case, Wednesday fans are bound to wish him the best – they love him a lot more than Imps supporters given his goal against Posh. Perhaps all he needs is to find a club that feels like home for him to fulfill that potential.
