The report discusses Dominic Iorfa’s future at Sheffield Wednesday before his contract expires

Sheffield Wednesday defender Dominic Iorfa is out of contract this summer.

Dominic Iorfa, 29, is out of contract with Sheffield Wednesday at the end of June after his sixth season at Hillsborough.

The defender joined in the 2018/19 campaign and has since made 165 appearances for the Owls, with five goals and five assists.

Last season, Iorfa played 28 times in the league, missing much of it midway through the campaign due to injury.

According to the list retained by Sheffield Wednesday, Iorfa has been offered a new contract ahead of the 2024/25 season.

But the defender is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal and there remains ongoing uncertainty over whether or not he will be with Sheffield Wednesday next season.

Reece James, Lee Gregory and Cameron Dawson have all moved on and joined new Cubs as free agents.

Dominic Iorfa Sheffield Wednesday future discussed

Much of the Sheffield Wednesday contract talk of late has been about Josh Windass; the forward is increasingly looking to leave as a free agent at the end of the month.

There is also uncertainty over Di’Shon Bernard, while Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have extended their stays in S6.

An emerging report from The Star says there is “no reason to believe” that talks between Sheffield Wednesday “are not yet live at this stage”.

This comes after Iorfa discussed his Sheffield Wednesday future in March, saying: “I’m settled here and I’m happy here, but to be honest, it’s not something that’s big on my mind.

“I’m back from injury so I’m focused on coming back, helping the team stay up. That’s my focus. If that’s the case (he’s offered a new contract) I’ll be happy, but right now I couldn’t tell you.”

Should Sheffield Wednesday keep Dominic Iorfa

Iorfa has certainly been a good servant for Sheffield Wednesday over the years, often putting in good performances when available.

But it’s not often that Iorfa is available for long periods at a time. The defender struggled with injuries during his time at Sheffield.

Danny Rohl is however keen for Iorfa to stay next season, given that Sheffield Wednesday have offered him a new deal.

He remains a versatile defensive player, capable of playing in the middle or on the right, and his athleticism has served him well in Rohl’s more intense style of play.

The fact that he has yet to sign a new deal may suggest that he is keeping his options open. But The Star’s report also suggests that there is still a definite chance that Iorfa will stay this summer.
