The 12-year-old girl dies days after running away in Barnet

A 12-year-old girl has died three days after the car she was traveling in was hit by a Bentley in north London.

Police said the two men in the Bentley fled the scene on foot after crashing into the Vauxhall Astra in Colney Hatch Lane on Saturday.

The girl was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, where she died on Tuesday, police said.

An eyewitness told The Standard that he saw the girl performing CPR at the scene.

She said: “There was a van blocking the road and a doctor’s car came from Muswell Hill. There were bystanders and someone was doing CPR.

“The car they were in was a red Astra.

“There was no metal left on the driver’s side from what I could see. I’m so sorry to hear he didn’t make it.”

The girl’s family are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

Officers are making a fresh appeal for witnesses after her death in Barnet.

Detective Inspector Ian Watson, from the Met’s Road and Transport Policing Command, said: “My thoughts are with the girl’s family as they come to terms with this devastating news and we will do all we can to support them at this difficult time.

“Our investigation into how the collision happened is ongoing and I would encourage anyone with information about what happened to come forward if they haven’t already.”

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was later released on bail to return for a date at the end of September.
