Leeds United loanee now at center of permanent tug-of-war transfer, 49ers want £4m – Report

Center back Diego Llorente is expected to be sold permanently this summer by Leeds United, but Roma have now joined Real Betis in their pursuit of his signature.

After losing in the play-off final, Leeds have a few loose ends that still need to be tied up in the way of players with loan clauses who have spent 12 months away from Elland Road.

The 49ers are hoping for permanent sales for all but Jack Harrison, who has confirmed a second away loan, with Diego Llorente almost certain to confirm his exit in the near future.

Spanish radio reports have now been picked up by Relevo, claiming that centre-back Llorente is not only a target for Roma this summer, his home for the past 18 months.

They share that Real Betis are now keen to land the 30-year-old defender this summer, while also closing in on an imminent deal to sign Marc Roca permanently.

Having seen Sokratis retire and Chadi Riad leave for Crystal Palace, Manuel Pellegrini is in need of defensive reinforcements, with Llorente one of the targets being considered for the Betis hierarchy.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

Roma remain in contention under Daniele De Rossi, but Betis’ eagerness to add top-flight experience and European experience could make this a more intriguing battle.

As for the fee involved, YEP’s Joe Donnohue said the Whites would demand a fee of around £4m to avoid a PSR loss for the Spaniard.

Llorente is a certainty to leave and his exit could help the club balance the books

Just as Roca is leaving the club for good, Llorente will not bring in a huge sum to transform our summer window.

However, what he does do is keep the books up with a sale that doesn’t register as a loss to us and also allows us to officially wipe those players off the payroll.

It won’t be a bidding war, but it will be interesting to see where Llorente goes after a solid season and a half in the Italian capital.
