The truth about Dan Scarr and why Birmingham City transfers are taking longer than expected

Birmingham City have failed to add another new face to their squad since signing goalkeeper Ryan Allsop from Hull City last week.

Allsop, 32, has bolstered the Blues’ goalkeeping department following the departure of Philippines international Neil Etheridge. While last season’s number one, John Ruddy, has been offered a new deal, the Blues are busy searching the market for another goalkeeper to compete with Allsop for the number one spot.

The Blues have been linked with Burnley’s Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Peacock-Farrell made just 24 appearances in five years at Burnley but completed loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Danish side Aarhus during that time. The 27-year-old also remains Northern Ireland’s first-choice goalkeeper.

The club is building from the back but is being forced to remain patient in its search for new players. Manager Chris Davies urged supporters to support the Blues last week.

“There’s a lot of work going into identifying targets and evaluating the current players that we have based on the observations and data that we provide,” Davies said. “It’s a lot of work and what’s important to me is that I navigate that process with the right level of composure.

“We are proactive and we are doing business to bring in players to help us, but at the same time we have to understand that it will take time to put together the team that will be, not just a team that stays with us for one season, but hopefully two or three. There is a lot of work and a lot of good people here working hard behind the scenes and step by step we will get there and build a very good team.”
