Man stabbed after fight breaks out in park

A man has been stabbed after an argument broke out in a park.

Emergency services were called to Church Gardens in Wigan town center just before 10.30pm on Monday 24 June. The report of a group of men fighting followed.




Police received another call from a member of the public who said a man had been stabbed. Officers and other emergency services attended and a man in his 20s was found with stab wounds to the shoulder.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said his injuries were not “life-changing or life-threatening”. Another man, aged 20, suffered a superficial injury. Both were taken to the hospital.

Three men aged between 21 and 25 were arrested in nearby Menes Park on suspicion of assault from the 18th Precinct. All remain in custody pending questioning.

Police said from initial inquiries that the fight between a group of men began at 10.05pm in Church Gardens, Wigan. The group reconvened at Menes Park a short time later at around 10.20pm.
