The price hike is coming to bus fares in Cornwall

Bus passengers in Cornwall will face fare increases from Sunday.

Transport for Cornwall said the change was due to “rising inflation and operational costs”.

The new price increases range from 20p to £16 depending on the type of fare.

Several fares for transport in and around the county, including adult single tickets in lanes two to five, will not change.

“Little Change”

Transport for Cornwall said: “We have subsidized these (fares) to keep them at very low prices since we introduced the Pilot Bus in April 2022, saving passengers millions of pounds.

“But rising inflation and operating costs mean you will now see a small change in the price of some of our fares.”

Transport for Cornwall said bus operators are “continuing to work” with Cornwall Council and the Department for Transport to cap all single bus tickets at £2 by 31 December 2024.

From Sunday, a group of adults, single fare will rise from £1.60 to £2.00 and return fares will change from £2.40 to £3.50.

There will be no change to adult, child or family tickets on the Cornwall fare plan, but city fares will rise to a maximum of £56 for a monthly adult ticket.

Children under five remain eligible for free travel under the new changes.
