Fans are reacting to the news that the award-winning Wapping Wharf restaurant is being sold

Fans, diners, former customers and former staff have taken to social media to share their sadness at the news that a much-loved restaurant in Wapping Wharf is to be sold. Award-winning chef Alex Hayes has revealed he is selling his Squeezed restaurant to become a teacher.

Squeezed, which is housed in two converted shipping containers at Unit 4 Cargo in Bristol’s iconic port hub, is a nationally award-winning burger restaurant serving ‘huge burgers, chips and lemonade’. It started life in 2017 and went on to be crowned winner in the 2019 National Burger Awards.




Its menu items include burgers with names like the ‘St Werburger’, ‘Reverse Cowgirl’ and ‘Mucker’. After the news broke just days ago, hundreds of people shared their sadness online.

In an Instagram post, Alex confirmed the news of the restaurant’s upcoming sale and wrote: “Too many people to thank, so much love and so many lessons along the way. Bristol, I am so grateful to have done this and I am so grateful to have you along for the ride.”

One commenter wrote: “You’re an optimist #fact I’ve had the best burger experiences of my life from your ingenious squeeze creations. #fact You will no doubt be a fantastic teacher and will carry that optimism forward. I love my friend very much. “

A second said: “Greatest burgers to ever grace my taste buds. Please tell me they will live somehow? Open prescription? Do I sell the brand? I can’t accept that he dies forever.”
