Bristol Rovers midfielder Rossiter set to turn down deal, clubs keen

Bristol Rovers midfielder Jordan Rossiter is expected to leave when his contract expires as EFL clubs eye a move, according to Bristol Live.

Bristol Rovers have had Rossiter since the summer of 2022, bringing him on a two-year deal from Fleetwood Town.

The midfielder has only played 25 times for the Gas. Injury struck the former Liverpool midfielder in December 2022 after a good spell in the side and he only returned for the final four games of the 2023/24 campaign.

However, Rossiter was among those offered a new contract by Bristol Rovers at the end of the season.

Now though, the 27-year-old is said to be expected to move on when his contract expires amid interest from elsewhere. Bristol Live say Rossiter has assessed his options but now has his heart set on a new challenge.

His situation is attracting interest from League One and League Two clubs, the report added. None of the admirers are named, but whoever they are, no one will have to pay a fee for the soon-to-be free agent.

Who is this?

THE TEST STARTS!

A new beginning

Rossiter could well have been an asset for Matt Taylor at Bristol Rovers.

On his day, the midfielder proved to be a valuable player in the middle of the park. After recovering from a long-term problem, many would have hoped that he could return to Gas’ best colours.

However, he appears to be moving on to pastures new and few will blame him for that. After such a long spell, Rossiter is ready to take an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start with a fresh side heading into next season.

With a number of League One and League Two clubs interested, it remains to be seen exactly where he ends up at the start of the new campaign.

A big summer ahead

If Rossiter does indeed leave, it means other additions will be needed at Memorial Stadium.

Isaac Hutchinson has joined from Walsall, but many believe he could be more of a replacement for Antony Evans. The latter is tipped to move up the leagues, leaving the Gas without their most influential player.

If Rossiter and Evans leave, it would leave Kamil Conteh and Luke McCormick as the only natural central midfielders, alongside new boy Hutchinson. Jerry Lawrence, 19, is on the books but has only played once in League One.

Midfield is certainly an area of interest, but with signings needed everywhere, it looks set to be a busy summer for Bristol Rovers.
