49ers position on cut-price sale of Archie Gray revealed as head-to-head chase between Tottenham, Man City and Dortmund

The chances of Archie Gray leaving Leeds United this summer have been revealed, although talk of a cut-price move may be nipped in the bud and with the club well ahead of Manchester City and Tottenham in the transfer race, TEAMtalk can reveal .

The teenager enjoyed an outstanding season at Elland Road, making 52 appearances in all competitions and making his debut on the opening day of the season at home to Cardiff. But despite Gray’s best efforts, he was unable to help Daniel Farke’s side return to the Premier League at the first time of asking as he suffered double promotion pains, which relegated Leeds United to at least one more second level football season.

As a result of the promotion rate, the Whites will once again be forced to cut their clothes accordingly as they prepare for the new season and build a squad they hope can challenge again while ensuring they stay in the limit of financial possibilities.

DEEP ➡️ Five stars from Leeds, the Whites are vulnerable to losing after missing out on promotion

For that, sales will be a must, with chairman Paraag Marathe admitting just days after their play-off final mess that the club will likely be forced to accept bids for some of their most sought-after stars.

And similar to last season, following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League, a host of top stars are likely to move on, although the level of transition and change this summer is unlikely to be as drastic as 12 months ago.

However, Leeds face a battle to retain the services of Gray, Willy Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville this summer. All three stars are in demand with no shortage of clubs looking to pry them away from Elland Road.

Archie Gray: Chase for Leeds United star down to three clubs

Of that trio, TEAMtalk understands the player most at risk of leaving is Dutch winger Summerville, who was named the Championship’s Player of the Year. And after scoring 21 goals and adding 10 assists from 49 appearances, the Whites will be hoping to land a hefty fee of around £30million for the 22-year-old.

However, interest is also strong for Gray. Now 18, the local star has thrived in both midfielder and right-back roles throughout the season, seeing himself rewarded with a call-up to the England Under-21 squad and already tipped as a future senior international by Gareth Southgate.

As a reward for his magnificent strides over the past 12 months, Leeds rewarded Gray with a new deal at Elland Road in January, the extended deal taking him until the summer of 2028.

TEAMtalk can confirm that the player and his entourage, including his father – former Leeds winger Andy Gray – and his agent Hayden Evans, are in no rush to secure a transfer any time soon. They believe his career is currently well served at Elland Road, with his game developing nicely and the player having Farke’s full trust and faith.

That doesn’t mean, however, that a move is totally out of the question.

And Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Gray – as revealed exclusively by TEAMtalk in November – is indeed real and a concrete approach from them would give Gray something to think about.

His family are well aware that BVB also have an excellent reputation for developing young talent and, having witnessed them help launch the careers of Jadon Sancho and more recently Jude Bellingham, they know they would be foolish to ignore their proposals. they were a concrete move to make.

Leeds’ position on the sale has been revealed

Indeed, their interest in the player would put ahead both Manchester City and Tottenham in the race for the teenage star. The Premier League duo have emerged from a plethora of teams chasing Gray to become the teams most capable of luring him.

However, Gray’s playing time could be limited by a move to either Premier League side, with the stagnant career of one of Gray’s inspirations, former Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips, serving as a warning to the player.

A potential move to Spurs would also come with similar concerns.

However, Leeds are also aware that both parties could likely outbid the Bundesliga’s bid and sweeten a potential deal. Leeds, for example, have a strong interest in turning Joe Rodon’s successful loan deal from last season into a permanent arrangement and could use the Wales defender as a potential loan in any such deal. Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp is another possible pawn that could be used as part of a transfer.

Whatever the future holds for Gray, and we can reveal that Leeds’ position is that they would prefer to sell other players first before considering selling Gray, it can also be confirmed that talk of a price-cutting move is completely beyond measure.

Reports in Germany have suggested a cut-price fee in the region of €25m (£21.1m) could be enough to tempt Leeds to sell.

However, TEAMtalk can confirm that it would take a much higher fee than that for Leeds to consider selling him, with the player’s valuation already well above that and the player having the potential to one day be worth a much more significant charge.
