Wakefield Trinity sign a man from Hull FC as they build for Super League

Wakefield Trinity have confirmed another signing as they look to strengthen their squad for their anticipated return to Super League next year.

The club has seen huge developments under new owner Matt Ellis, with recruitment particularly impressive, including the arrival of both Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeeken from Catalans Dragons on four-year deals.

They have now confirmed that they have signed Cam Scott from Hull FC on a two-year deal with an option for a third year, and Daryl Powell’s side are building a squad that can compete in Super League.

Wakefield Trinity are yet to lose a game so far in the Championship and are incredibly likely to gain promotion through IMG’s assessment, meaning their spell out of Super League will only last a year.

As such, they recruited as if they were a Super League team, just as Leigh Leopards did when they went all in and made their promotion, tying down key players and building a Super League worthy squad during the second level.

The club have confirmed the signing of Cam Scott via their website, with Hull FC also taking to social media to confirm that Scott will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Wakefield Trinity shared: “Wakefield Trinity are proud to announce the signing of Cameron Scott from Hull FC!

“The 24-year-old joins Trinity on a two-year deal with the option of a third.

“Formerly a Bradford Bulls youngster, Scott moved to Hull FC at a young age and rose through their academy system making his Super League debut in 2018.”

The 24-year-old has played 11 times for Hull FC so far this season and has switched between center and back row, giving Wakefield Trinity some versatility for next season.

Speaking about the move to Trin, Scott said: “I’m really excited about the opportunity to come to Wakefield. It is a club that is doing a lot of things right, both on and off the pitch, and is heading in the right direction. I feel like I got to a point in my career where I needed something new and when Wakefield came along, the opportunity was too good to pass up.”

Trinity head coach Daryl Powell said, “We are excited to add Cam to our team for next year. Young English outside backs of this quality are hard to come by and Cam is already a quality player who we feel will thrive in our environment. We wish him all the best for the rest of the season and look forward to welcoming him to the Trinity family next season in 2025.”

Recruitment manager Ste Mills said: “We are committed to securing Cameron’s services for the 2025 season and beyond. I’ve been a fan of Cam since he was on scholarship at Bradford all those years ago. He is a young English player who is determined to become the best player he can be and I am sure he will be a huge success at Wakefield Trinity. He fits our recruiting model perfectly and I can’t wait to see him in 2025 in the red, white and blue.”
