Gateshead pedophile who changed name to evade capture jailed in Greater Manchester

A pedophile who changed his name to continue offending has been sentenced to three years in prison. Originally from Gateshead, 34-year-old Mason Maxwell, formerly known as ‘Kane Hutchinson’, has changed his name by poll and moved to Greater Manchester.

Maxwell, who is just weeks away from his 35th birthday (16/07/1989), of no fixed abode, was given a three-year prison sentence following an investigation by the Stockport Complex Protection Team ( SCST) of Greater Manchester Police. Police have revealed that ‘Kane Hutchinson’ adopted a new identity before moving from Gateshead to Greater Manchester where he continued his crimes against children.

After a thorough investigation by specialist officers, Maxwell admitted making an indecent video of a child, three counts of capturing indecent images of a child, two counts of making an indecent image of a child and three counts of charge of distributing an indecent child. the image of a child.

On Monday, June 24, Maxwell faced Minshull Crown Court in Manchester, where he received a three-year prison sentence. He has been registered as a sex offender for life and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 15 years.

In 2021, after receiving a tip from the community, SCST initiated an investigation into Maxwell’s activities to determine if any young people were affected by his alleged crimes. On Thursday, January 6, 2022, officers executed a search warrant at Maxwell’s residence on Clowes Street in Salford, where they seized several key electronic devices, the Manchester Evening News reports.

A thorough digital analysis of these devices revealed indecent images and videos of children. Maxwell was found to have shared these images and bragged about his reprehensible illegal sexual activities to anyone who would listen.

Detective Constable Ben Swapp from Complex Safeguarding Hub in Stockport commented: “Maxwell is a calculated and depraved individual who took extraordinary measures to change his name so he could continue to offend in a new location, preying on young people vulnerable”.

“Throughout his interview, Maxwell denied all allegations and made numerous excuses for his predatory behavior. He has shown no remorse for his actions, refusing to consider the effect his deplorable behavior had on the young victims and their families.”

“I would encourage anyone who has been affected by this case or who believes they have been a victim of sexual abuse to please come forward and report it to us. We have specially trained officers and partners who will support you and make sure you get the help and care you need.”
