The call “Issuing hatted postmen” as seagulls attack in Cornish town

CornwallLive readers have discussed news that in one Cornish town, the stations are sprinting more than they are delivering, thanks to some fiery seagulls. Royal Mail has issued a warning, pointing the finger at these birds for any postal delays in Liskeard.

Locals have been advised not to blame the post for the delayed mail, but rather the seagulls who have claimed the streets as their own personal territory, although they are obviously only protecting their young and are themselves a protected species. Readers have different opinions about birds and have had their say in our comments section.

Ryan Lean, Royal Mail manager at Liskeard depot, identified the seagulls on the roof as the culprit behind the postal team’s newfound sprinting skills. In a recent letter to Calea Bogdara residents, Mr Lean said: “As you may be aware, we are currently experiencing some difficulties delivering safely to you and your neighbor due to seagulls in the area, which are flocking to staff of delivery to protect their young’.

Royal Mail’s letter gives residents a choice: wait for seagulls to clear the coast for mail delivery, or beat the birds by redirecting mail to a safer address.

Popdiping thinks, “Time to rip off a few hundred.” Baggyboatee replies, “I don’t agree with them being slaughtered…I love. They must be diverted to build their nests elsewhere because once they nest in one place they will return every year if not discouraged. Broadcast the post people with helmets, after all they don’t have to have any excuse for being late with the post!”
