Bristol Rovers full fixtures for the 2024/25 League One season: Gas host first Northampton Town

Bristol Rovers will begin their 2024/25 League One season with a home game against Northampton Town before back-to-back tough away trips to new faces Rotherham United and Stockport County.

The opening day clash with Northampton will kick off at 5.30pm as part of the new Sky Sports broadcast arrangements, while Matt Taylor will make an almost immediate return to Rotherham. The Gas will be on the road three times in their opening five games, with another long trip to Barnsley following a home clash with Cambridge United.

The Millers are bottom of the Championship but have already made 10 signings at the time of writing, the latest of which is goalkeeper Cameron Dawson, who has also held talks over a move to Rovers. Meanwhile, it’s a first third-tier campaign for Stockport County since 2010 after they won League Two last term. The Gas last played at Edgeley Park in August 2009, County’s most recent League One season, winning 2-0.

Rovers will play all three relegated Championship sides first away, with trips to Huddersfield Town and promotion favorites Birmingham City scheduled for October 19 and December 14 respectively. The Gas will also have three more new away days against Wrexham on Good Friday (April 18), Mansfield Town (November 23) and Crawley Town (March 22).

Although the Gas are away on Boxing Day, the fixture gods have been extremely kind, booking Rovers’ shortest trip of the season for her as Taylor takes his side to another former club in Exeter City. They will then finish 2024 with a trip to Stevenage on December 29, before opening 2025 with a home clash against Leyton Orient on New Year’s Day, which will be great news for those planning to stay local for the New Year holidays.

How tough the end of Taylor’s side’s campaign will really prove remains to be seen, but on paper the last seven are certainly tough as they host Birmingham City, Exeter City, Stevenage and Reading, along with trips to Bolton Wanderers, Wrexham and a final day clash at Blackpool.
