The M25 is being upgraded as a four-vehicle crash closes the road with severe delays

The M25 is experiencing severe delays in Essex this morning (June 26) following a four-vehicle crash which closed a section of the road. The road is currently closed between J25 Waltham Cross, Enfield and J27 Epping, M11. The National Highways Agency describes it as a “serious collision”.

There is also congestion up to a mile before J25 A10 Enfield, and from watchers anti-clockwise, halfway back to J28 A12 Brentwood. Traffic monitoring site Inrix first reported the collision around 5:30 this morning.




Traffic is advised to exit at J25 and follow a diversion route which has been put in place by National Highways.

Essex Police confirmed that one person has suffered serious injuries, although they are not believed to be life-threatening.

There are long delays on the M25 near Epping due to a serious collision on the clockwise carriageway.

National Highways says there are delays on the approach with 60 minute delays clockwise over normal travel time. There are also 60-minute anti-clockwise delays as traffic moves slowly past the stage.

One person has been hospitalized with serious injuries after a collision on the M25 involving two lorries.

We are awaiting further information from the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST).

The road closure remains in place while investigations continue.

What happened on the M25 near Enfield and Brentwood?

The M25 clockwise is closed from J25 A10 (Enfield) to J27 for the M11 due to a serious accident involving two lorries.

There are severe delays with a 12 mile queue and congestion to Potters Bar (J24).

The M25 was closed at J26 to Waltham Abbey from 5.30am and then from J25 just before 7.30am.

Four vehicles involved and one person taken to hospital

In a statement, police confirmed that four vehicles were involved and that one person suffered serious injuries. They announced that the road will remain closed while the scene is cleared.

Essex Police said: “We were called to a collision involving four vehicles on the M25 at junction 26 clockwise shortly after 5.30am this morning (Wednesday 26 June). The officers intervened together with their colleagues from the fire department and from the ambulance.

“One victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening. The road closure remains in place while this incident is cleared and investigations continue.”

Detour route in operation

National Highwaysh has issued details of a diversion route which is currently in operation. Road users must follow the empty triangle diversion symbol.

  • Exit at J25 and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A10 towards London.
  • Follow the A10 to “Great Cambridge Junction” and take the first exit onto the A406 “North Circular Road” towards the M11, Walthamstow and Edmonton.
  • At the M11, J4, keep in the middle lane and then take the M11 link road towards Cambridge.
  • Take the M11 J6 exit, M25 J27 and turn right to join the M25 clockwise.

They said: “There are long delays on the approach, with delays of 60 minutes clockwise on top of the normal journey time. There are also 45-minute anti-clockwise delays as traffic moves slowly past the stage.

The shutdown has been extended even further

National Highways has just issued a tweet warning that the closure has been extended and now includes J27.

Highways confirms the road is closed

National Highways have confirmed that the road is now closed between J25 and J26. They are advising people to avoid the area this morning.
