Protests have taken place and further demonstrations are expected, particularly in Athens, leading to a warning for tourists to remain vigilant. Tourists have been instructed to “stay away from protests” and leave the area if a demonstration starts.

Foreign Office advice states: “Greek authorities have increased security at some prominent locations, including tourist sites, due to events in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.”

“Currently, there is an increased risk of such protests, especially in the center of Athens. Be aware of your surroundings, stay away from protests and follow the advice of local authorities,” reports Birmingham Live.

The government warned that strikes could be held without notice and could cause disruption to buses, trains, ferries and air transport, as well as road networks and borders. Previous demonstrations have taken place around major squares in central Athens, including Syntagma Square.

The Foreign Office issued a warning, warning: “Some demonstrations in the past have turned violent. Avoid demonstrations whenever possible and retreat to the last known safe place. Security forces often use tear gas to break up demonstrations, which can affect your breathing. and vision.”

In addition, tourists are encouraged to keep a copy of the photo page of their passport, thefts are common in busy tourist spots. In Greece, carrying a passport is legally required, and although copies may not be sufficient for police ID checks, it is recommended to keep valuables spread across multiple bags and pockets.
