Asda announces change to its supermarket delivery service

Asda has announced a change it is making to its supermarket delivery slots.

The giant retailer delivers groceries and other items to homes across the UK, and a new initiative this summer will give drivers the option to offer an extra service to customers. Drivers can add a badge to their uniforms that will let shoppers at home know they’re “Happy to Chat Game” as they unload their orders.

The ‘Happy to Chat’ scheme was first launched on a trial basis in November 2000 with the Royal Voluntary Service after it was recognized that drivers were a lifeline for some people during the covid pandemic, with almost a quarter (23%) of customers admitting they only interacted with people once a week, many of whom were delivery drivers.

Now, in a wider campaign, Asda aims to “unite all ages” and “especially those who love sport”. He hopes the badges will encourage home shoppers to chat with his employees as they receive their deliveries.

David Hills, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “We first trialled Happy to Chat badges as part of the pandemic in 2000 and quickly made them a permanent accessory for our drivers to wear. This summer, we want to make sure we continue the conversations with our older customers, especially since one of our drivers may be the only person they interact with that day.

“This badge is a symbol of the friendly and approachable service of our colleagues, which can make such a difference to those who do not have much contact with others. We want to make sure it’s in our stores, on your doorstep or in your home. community – we’re here for customers this summer.”
