The mini balloon party is taking place this evening near Bristol

A mini hot air balloon party is taking place near Bristol tonight (Saturday) – complete with “special shaped” balloon and a night glow. The unofficial event is called ‘Light Up Snake Meadows’ and is organized by the Bath Hot Air Balloon Club.

It takes place at Snake Meadows in Saltford, between Bath and Bristol, weather and conditions permitting. The plan is to inflate the famous Michelin Man hot air balloon and two other smaller “specially shaped” balloons before creating a nighttime glow with a number of other balloons.

Conditions look perfect for the impromptu mini-fiesta, with calm, clear weather and not much wind, but organizers said they will assess the situation on Saturday, May 11 at 5pm.

The gates to Snake Meadows will open for pedestrian access only at 6.30pm and anyone coming is urged to walk, cycle or take public transport to Saltford as parking is not possible in the area.

“If the winds are low we’ll try to inflate the Michelin man, but if they’re too strong we’ve got some small shapes we can try,” explained a spokesman for the Bath Hot Air Balloon Club. “This will take place between 7pm and 8.15pm, then at 9pm it will be time to light up Snake Meadows, shining Slither the Snake two rainbow balloons and hopefully two more for 20-30 minutes.

“On entering the pitch we will be handing out glow sticks so everyone can join in and it would be great if everyone entering could spare a pound or whatever change they can for the charity pot.

“We are asking people to park around Saltford and come in, please do not park on the main A4 road outside. It will be a great night for all to take some great photos,” he added.
