Live M1 traffic updates as drivers were stuck in three-mile tailbacks

Motorists traveling along the M1 near Barnsley are facing long delays this afternoon.

There are currently three miles of congestion on the M1 northbound between J36 for Hoyland and J37 for Barnsley. One lane is currently closed between the two intersections after a truck dropped its load.

It is currently unclear what the shed’s load is and when the road will reopen. Yorkshire Live has contacted National Highways for more information.


Our travel partner Inrix reports: “One lane closed and traffic queued for three miles due to load storage on the M1 northbound from J36 A61 (Barnsley South / Hoyland) to J37 A628 Whinby Road (Barnsley / Dodworth). The journey takes about 10 minutes.”
