Sheffield man pays £300 fixed penalty notice after caught with fly flip flops in Eckington

A Sheffield resident has paid a £300 fixed penalty charge after their waste was found with a fly-tipping on Gashouse Lane, Eckington.

Members of the public discovered the fly tip waste in May and reported it to the Council. A Council enforcement officer attended and recovered evidence from the flyover, linking it to a property in Sheffield.

Waste collectors must have a waste transporter’s license registered with the Environment Agency. It is the responsibility of residents to ensure that their waste is disposed of correctly. If you hand over waste to a waste collector and fail to check that they are licensed to transport waste, then you are committing an offence.

Stephen Pickering, Cabinet Member for North East Derbyshire District Council, said: “Please ensure waste is picked up by authorized haulers, it is your responsibility to ensure waste is disposed of correctly.

We as a council continue to do great work to catch fly tippers and prevent further littering, achieving our aim of maintaining a safe and pleasant environment across the borough.”

Gashouse Lane has been subject to a number of fly tipping incidents recently and investigations are ongoing. If you have information about a witness who flipped the area, please report it.

Check if your waste hauler is licensed by visiting the government’s website.
