Departing Reading defender names ‘ambitious’ chairman as reason for Bristol move

Former Reading defender Clinton Mola has labeled having an “ambitious chairman” as the reason he was lured to join Bristol Rovers.

The 23-year-old played 35 times for the Royals last season and improved as the campaign went on, but has not been offered a new contract by the club.

Signing a three-year deal with the Pirates, including an option for a fourth year, the defender spoke of the wanted feeling and an “ambitious” hierarchy as selling points for the club.

“Joining Bristol Rovers is an exciting opportunity for me,” Mola told Bristol Rovers. “When I heard that the Club was for me, I was very interested. The club made me feel very welcome and that was a big part of my decision to join Rovers. I’m very happy to be here and I can’t wait to get going.

“With the ambition coming from the manager, the coaching staff and from above, this is a very positive club to be at. When you have an ambitious chairman and board, that rightly trickles down through the whole club. For me, that’s one of the most positive things about being here.”

Reading are one of two League One clubs yet to begin their transfer business as pre-season training begins today.
