The latest transfer update provided on the futures of Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto at Leeds United

Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto continue to be linked with exits from Leeds United this summer and Athletic journalist Nancy Froston has shared a new update on their futures.

The two Leeds backs are almost inseparable off the pitch but could both be on their way out of Elland Road following the club’s failure to win promotion.

Given their age, contract length and potential, both Summerville and Gnonto are arguably two of Leeds’ most sold assets in a summer where it has already been recognized that sales are needed.

Summerville is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, with Fabrizio Romano reporting just last week that Brighton & Hove Albion had opened talks. An asking price of £30 million has been set.

Meanwhile, Gnonto was always bound to generate speculation once it became clear that Leeds would remain in the Championship after their woes last summer.

Nancy Froston shares a new update on Summerville & Gnonto

Leeds have already started looking for players who could come this summer, with FC Basel and former Preston North End loanee Liam Millar in the mix.

However, Millar is only likely to arrive if one or both of Summerville and Gnonto depart, giving as clear an indication as they could be on the way.

Leeds are said to have shown little resistance to trying to keep Summerville behind the scenes after the season he has just enjoyed, but Gnonto’s future is a bit more interesting given his up and down campaign.

And speaking on One Leeds Fan Channel earlier, Athletic journalist Froston shared an update on both, suggesting reports of discussions with Brighton over Summerville are premature.

She said: “I saw the one with Brighton and Summerville took off, but from what I understand it’s not really based on anything. I don’t think Brighton have seriously considered picking up the phone or making an offer to Leeds.

“But those clubs are circling and considering, but I don’t know if any of them are at the stage where they’re going to warm up right away. The two players (Summerville and Gnonto) will be talked about all summer.

“They are two of the most likely to go, based on where they were with Gnonto last year. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that he’ll feel a bit uneasy again with another championship season ahead of him.”

Gnonto should use the example of Summerville for the next future decision

Although Gnonto enjoyed somewhat of a purple patch between February and April, he will have finished the campaign feeling he could have done better.

Unfortunately for him, his best friend Summerville became a fixture on the left wing from October onwards, a position in which he himself had looked excellent in the Premier League.

As such, Gnonto could use Summerville as an example of how the Championship can really provide the platform to go for big things if you really get down to it.

After winning the Championship’s POTS award, Summerville are now all but certain to land a big-money move to an established Premier League club. On the other hand, if Gnonto were to move, it would more likely be someone near the bottom.

Instead, by staying, he could then take Summerville’s left-back spot and get back to his best. From there, who knows what the future might hold.
