An infamous gangster known as the ‘big Viking Stomper’ has been caught after breaking out of prison at the end of May.

Daniel Gee, 44, was filmed smiling as he was arrested by Merseyside Police from Kirkless Hall Inn in Aspull, Wigan.

He was first reported missing on May 27 after disappearing from category D prison Kirklevington Grange in rural North Yorkshire.

In October 2009 he was found guilty of two counts of death threats and blackmail.

He planned to arm himself after 16-year-old Jamie Starkey shot him in the stomach and lungs – but Gee refused medical treatment afterwards.

After that, Gee made numerous threats, but the jury could not reach a verdict on conspiracy to commit murder and possession of firearms.

In 2010, he was given a rare indefinite sentence for public protection.

Gee became notorious after flooding the Grizedale estate in Liverpool with drugs.

Judge Henry Globe KC said as he was sentenced: “I have no doubt that the public must be protected from you in the future.

“I really don’t know when it will be safe to release you.”

Police said Gee is in custody and will be returned to jail soon.
