Person hit by train between Derby and Sheffield with services disrupted

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has confirmed that its services are being disrupted after a person was hit by a train. The operator issued a statement following the closure of the line between Derby and Sheffield at around 10.40am on Wednesday 26 June.

An EMR spokesman said: “We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This is disrupting our trains on our Intercity and Liverpool/Norwich routes.

“Emergency services are currently en route to deal with the incident and there is no estimate as to when they will arrive. The line is currently closed between Derby and Sheffield. You can use your ticket to travel with other operators at no additional cost.”

Trains running via Derby to Sheffield cannot run in either direction. The EMR says it expects the line to open within the next two hours and says its priority is to get trains running again at the announced times, which it expects to resume by 1pm.

An EMR spokesman added: “You should continue to travel as originally planned, but your journey may be delayed by up to 60 minutes. We are sorry for the delay in your journey today.

“We are currently looking at alternative arrangements to keep you moving. Please note that this may take time and rest assured that our team is working tirelessly to arrange this for you as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience while we do this. “

Those traveling to Sheffield can be diverted to Doncaster where they can change to a train to London Kings Cross, with EMR predicting this journey could take between two and two and a half hours. If your total journey has been delayed by more than 15 minutes you may be entitled to claim compensation, full details of how to claim can be found here: eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/delay
