England have handed Luke Shaw a huge boost as the Manchester United star claims Slovakia

Luke Shaw could finally return from injury when England face Slovakia at Euro 2024 on Sunday.

Manager Gareth Southgate gambled on taking the 28-year-old to Germany, given he had not played football since February.

The decision appeared to backfire, with the Three Lions boss forced to select Kieran Trippier for all three group games.

That’s despite the Newcastle United star nursing a calf problem himself and being predominantly right-handed.

However, just as hopes began to fade over Manchester United full-back Shaw’s availability, the player himself has provided a promising update.

As England’s stars left the stadium after their frustrating 0-0 draw with Slovenia, he was questioned on his return.

And Shaw replied, “Next game.”

The news will come as a big boost to both Southgate and England fans, who quickly fell in love with the team.

Dull and dismal performances against Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia saw the nation go from joint pre-tournament favorites to almost certainly also in the competition.

Trippier at left-back led to a lack of width on that flank, leaving Southgate’s side looking out of sorts and out of sorts, with Phil Foden hovering in an attacking midfield role.

But now, with their last-16 clash with Slovakia confirmed, England can, it seems, finally turn to their No.1 left-back.

Southgate could also make other changes, with Foden currently absent from the squad to attend the birth of his third child.

Meanwhile, in central midfield, Manchester United’s little wonder Kobbie Mainoo gave his manager something to think about with a positive display after replacing the dogged Conor Gallagher at half-time.
