Coulibaly likely to return despite interest from AIK

Sheffield United midfielder Ismaila Coulibaly has admitted he is likely to return to Bramall Lane this summer.

The Blades finished bottom of the table and will be back in the second tier for next year.

Coulibaly, 23, spent the second half of last season on loan at AIK in Sweden.

The former Mali international played ten league games in Sweden, scoring twice and assisting once.

Speaking to Fotboll Sthlm about his future, he admitted that while AIK are trying to sign him, he will most likely return to Sheffield United. He said:

“AIK is trying to work something out, but it will be difficult.

“We’ll see what happens, but I’ll most likely go back to England.”

What is better for both parties?

It seems the 23-year-old is not too keen on returning to England this summer after apparently enjoying his spell in Sweden in recent months.

However, as things stand, it seems unlikely that AIK will be able to seal a permanent deal for the midfielder and he could be forced to play Championship football next season.

This may not be a bad thing for the club if they play often. However, if Coulibaly wants to move and is not part of Wilder’s plans for next season, then it certainly makes sense to allow him to leave this summer.

Not allowing him to leave would then only disturb the dressing room.

Looking ahead

Due to ongoing takeover talks, the Blades have not been able to make many inroads in the transfer window so far.

Wilder’s side will be hoping to compete at the top of the division by now, but it has to be said that of the three newly relegated sides at the moment Sheffield United look the most likely to struggle.

It will be interesting to see what the rest of the summer has in store for them and how they approach their recruitment between now and the start of the campaign.

The fixtures were published earlier today and Sheffield United kick off their season with an away trip to Deepdale to face Preston North End.
